The article says the cell phone ban goes into effect in July. That gives me time to find my ear piece for my phone.

Ahh. Cool, I misread that, but... I know I've got a headset around here, I've even used it, and I'll want it even more because we'll be dropping the land line in the new house, but occasionally I'll answer the phone before I can find a place to pull off. Gotta change that.

Not sure how I feel about this. (I'm not in CA, so this is just hypothetical to me, but...)

One...it's not really the 'hands-free' aspect that causes the problem. When you're on the phone, you're visualizing the person on the other end, instead of paying attention to traffic -- that's the big problem, and using a headset doesn't really do anything about that.

Two...if it *is* a hands-free issue, where's the ban on drinking coffee/applying makeup/changing the radio station?

This seems like a feel-good measure and another reason to pull drivers over and make a few bucks for the local PD.

Just seems like a good reason to hit the 'ignore' button while driving.
