Kinkos wackiness

2008-08-26 18:08:07.705677+00 by Dan Lyke 2 comments

A conversation here about printing costs made be try to look up the price to print a document at Kinko's whatever FedEx is calling it these days. Not only do they not have prices on their web site that I can see, their b0rk3n store locator thinks "94952" is closer to Point Reyes Station than Petaluma, and amidst all of the shipping centers and pick-up and drop-off points doesn't return their actual location in Petaluma unless you check off everything but the "FedEx Kinko's" box.

How can a company that generally gets it fairly right be so clueless?

Sorry if this sounds like too much of a commercial. If you want to avoid the "wackiness" you might want to give Mimeo.com a try. Submit your documents online, pick your finishing options and enter your address. Simple.

Even there, though, they hide pricing behind a "give us all your personal information" wall. The particular document was some legal silliness that involved printing a thirteen hundred page B&W document that nobody would ever read, probably only one or two copies, so all I wanted was a "is it cheaper to let a printer run for three days or to do this online" thing.

Turns out we've punted the decision to someone else (woohoo!), but just a place where I could say "1300 B&W pages, how much per page?" would have been nice.
