Buchanan over the edge

2009-09-03 20:17:34.193073+00 by Dan Lyke 6 comments

Wow. Pat Buchanan completely ignores history and economics and says Hitler didn't want war, Churchill pushed him into it. If you were ever in doubt that Buchanan is a raving loony with a fragmented grip on reality, this is the final nail.

History is best reviewed from far away; for a war of this magnitude, probably farther away then we are now.

Buchanan is usually very insightful. His book 'Death of the West' was right on. He has spent a life time studying this stuff.

There are those who say the USSR won WWII not the US - we only blocked the end runs...

Lots of things have gone on which we were not told. History is written by the Victor.

Some day we may look back and say Obama used the exact same tactics as Hitler for the same reasons. Got to go now to prepare for Obamas speech to our school children where he will impassion them to work for Obamas goals and the follow up homework about how important it is that the children help Obama.

Buchanan has, for a long time, been an idiot, but in this case he misses the core and obvious fact that Hitler's economy depended on continued expansion, expanding the tax base and stealing and enslaving from the that expansion. Poland might not have been the right place to start the defense, but Germany's expansion wasn't about Danzig.

On the speeches to schoolchildren, you think maybe Barack Obama could read them "My Pet Goat"?

One of the lovely things about the modern era is that information is scattered among so many sources that the facts can be gleaned. The interpretation of facts is of course still the wild wild west. Buchanan is a passionate sometimes insightful moron. A clever barrister could take Hitler’s case and make it sound very reasonable but the facts of evil are indelible just like Japanese internment camps and torturing “detainees”. Facing and accepting failures is part of growth and learning.

Methinks Buchanan is a long way from done Dan. His followers are people of faith (faith requires blind following) ergo it doesn’t matter what he says right, wrong or contradictory to what he said yesterday. There will always be a significant group of people living in that reality.

OMG! The president is trying to impose his agenda of growth and personal responsibility on the tiny people. The speech will be available online, the day before he gives the address. I’m looking forward to my wee ones hearing it and talking to them about it. If I disagree with what the president has to say I’ll call him out on it and my children will know why BECAUSE that’s what parents do.

I don't think Buchannan is either an idiot or done. He is not interested in truth or rationality. His interest is in the stimulation of the adrenals, not the brain. He succeeds with his target population. He is not interested in those who think, but rather those who react. He, like all too many political animals, has learned that he can say anything he wants to. And there is a segment of the population that will believe, and the epinephrine will flow.

The text of the speech has been published. It escapes me how anyone in his right mind could possibly object to their children hearing this sort of appropriate encouragement.

Oh wait, that's the operable phrase, isn't it: "right mind".

President Obama has just finished delivering the speech live. It was excellent.
