Exploding Capacitors

EEVblog with David L Jones: Exploding capacitors (direct YouTube link). For years I've heard "don't hook up your capacitors backwards, bad things will happen", so I haven't. It's cool to see what happens when you do.

"What can I film with that? I know! Let's blow some shit up!"

I found the intro almost as amusing as the blowing-up.

Good examples. I enjoyed the video of the blow-up, back when I fixed equipment I've seen the aftermath but not the actual explosion.

The aftermath of the reverse commutation capacitors for an SCR in an x-ray machine dented the heavy metal equipment covers as if hit by a sledgehammer. the SCR failed to shut off, and the bank of capacitors that were the size of Fosters Ale beer cans got reverse voltaged.. 400+ volts worth. The inside of the cabinet looked like a grenade went off.
