My favorite reason: To hid your "grow op" electrical consumption from the utility and authorities.

Of course, having 30+kw of solar arrays is so very discrete.

Better solution is just to go LED and cut your power consumption down to 10% of what it would be with HID. voila, your grow-op disappears in the noise, burning no more power than a space heater or two.

Of course, I have to ask the obvious question: Do LED's work as grow lights?
