I'm partially surprised you did not originally buy it and fix it up it, as a rental and/or to increase your homes value..

We thought the price it sold for was too high, and are shocked that it gained as much value as it apparently did.

We also would have had to rent it for a bit if we did the work without a contractor's license.

That's good news for you that it increased in value, in theory helps the neighborhood overall, although it can affect your property taxes and other living costs.

Prop 13 means our property taxes don't get hit too hard, and by connection, the more recent sales at high prices means those new buyers are posturing more of a share of the cost of government services.

Yeah, gentrification can lead to higher retail prices, but overall I think it's good for us.
