Realization: Congress is the Prisoner's Dilemma writ large. We can't vote our slimeball out or other slimeballs will have seniority.

Good analogy. We ALL have to our vote our slimeballs out at the same time. Fear it's a temporary fix as the slime grows back. How do we kill the societal political slime that grows on fresh meat in politics?

How do we kill the societal political slime that grows on fresh meat in politics?

First we change the rules of congress to remove the perks of seniority. Second we require anyone taking a political office to post a huge bond (in the millions) that is forfeit if they take a job after they leave office doing lobbying or working with any company that benefited from any laws or regulations they sponsored. Third we require a 7 year sunset provision on any law or regulation created by congress that gets less than a 2/3 majority.

Basically we remove the enabling factors and indirect incentives that create the current situation. We can't fix everything, but we can make it less profitable.
