Well, that answers my question about whether or not to run out and see it. The iMax3D theater across the street from the downtown multiplex is showing a T-Rex film. I'm sure that would be a better experience...

It wasn't a *bad* remake of Land Before Time (ad infinitum), but it was a remake. My kides are the target audience -- they grew up with the animated movies and Dinosaurs seemed like a live-action (I know, I know) graduation of sorts. And we didn't have to listen to that pesky Sarah triceratops canned scream anymore. (She was annoying in the first film and agonizing by the fifth.) But I won't deny that boomer parents like me were targeted too. I grew up looking at those dinosaur murals in Time Life books as a kid, wishing those pictures would come to life (and thought Yale's Museum of Natural History had swiped the art from the book the first time I went there). Plus, I was one of those Ray Harryhousen fans would always begged for more dinosaur footage. For those two reasons, Dinosaurs was worth sitting through. Even if it was The Lion King meets Tarzan of the Apes meets Jurassic Park sans humans.

First about that imax movie. If its the back to the crestatious or what ever its called, then its pretty bad. But its kinda intersting in a very soft core porn pediphelia sense. I've seen several trailers for Dinosaur and actually talked to a couple people who have managed to see parts of it. Apparently, if you've seen the preview, you've seen just about all the cool effect(the fact that they manage to keep the effect for the entire movie is impressive though.) Aaron

I saw a few production shots that looked okay, but it's always hard to tell. And the first few publicity shots were kinda weak, the compositing looked bad. However, now that I'm seeing trailers on video I've gotta go see it, 'cause some of that compositing and working video into the live action stuff looks flat out awesome, and there are a few water effects that were spectacular. I guess I've gotta go see Gladiator first, though...
