Open Source "Unamerican"

Normally I ignore the rantings of deluded liars, but in this case it's Microsoft's operating systems chief Jim Alchin claiming that "Open source is an intellectual-property destroyer". Uh. Yeah. Today's User Friendly is dead-on.

Via Scripting News, Craig Burton on Jim Alchin:

If I were face to face with Jim, I would say, "Jim, buddy, one of two things caused you to say something so clueless. 1.) You don't understand the open source movement, 2.) You are lying through your teeth. Either way, you need better advice before you say something sent maging."

This is a must read article.

Both Dan Gillmore and Tim O'Reilly offer their comments as to why Jim may have been taken out of context, or at least their hopes that he had been. Dan includes an explanation from Microsofts Brad Smith on what Allchin may have meant.
