Press manipulations

2001-12-07 15:26:02+00 by Dan Lyke 2 comments

Someone's screwing with somebody's mind: Via Edgecase, I was going to link to the Americans United for Seperation of Church And State press release against J. Robert Brame III, which is up in arms that Bush is about to appoint Brame to the Labor Relations Board, and that Brame has been a supporter of some pretty fascist Christian organizations. But a couple of net searches and it appears that Brame was a Clinton appointee from November 17, 1997 to August 27, 2000.

Okay, now that Google is back up, I can search a little further.

Interestingly, AltaVista returns the NLRB entry on Brame as the first entry, while a Google search on "J. Robert Brame III" returns the AU press release at the top. I find quite a few government sites referencing Brame as a Clinton appointee with ties to Senator Kennedy, in the mainstream press only the Washington Post mentions Brame, in the context of the AU press release.

Got a message back from the AU folks claiming Brame's original appointment was part of a big compromise deal. So why aren't they talking about this aspect in the press release?

I think any attempt to really find background on Brame would require a good dead-trees library on the east coast, there are a few notes on his service on the NLRB, most of which seem pretty unremarkable (although I can see how he'd piss off union supporters). Anyone out there want to try to track down some of his religious writings?
