Well in fact it would be downright odd if they weren't related, though the post is funny. Simply put, because of the way one's family tree blooms out in the past, we are all very closely related. Here's an Atlantic article that goes into more detail:

I seem to remember a headline from the Weakly World News at the checkout line a few years back that claimed that Mikhael Gorbachov and Bill Cosby were cousins, due to the same geometric branching of family trees. I didn't know which guy to pity more.
