Samorost

Mark Morford mentioned this one in one of his Daily Fix[Wiki] newsletters, and David Chess[Wiki] has now mentioned it twice, and for some reason this time I got to the third screen, and... If you liked Myst[Wiki] in that meditative click around see what happens sort of way: http://www.freshsensation.com/samorost.swf

So while waiting for other things to finish, twice I got the little guy into the building (with the wall-panel type switches, past the aardvark), got the next "loading" to about 36%, and then blackness. Anyone know what's going on?

Yep, just as maddening as Myst. They nailed the "don't give them any idea what they're supposed to be doing" technique.

Here's a walkthrough, apparently there's one level left that won't load for me. I found it much more obvious than Myst[Wiki], and unlike Myst[Wiki] once something worked I felt like there was an internal consistency to it. But either way the art direction is much cooler than the gameplay.

And Amanita Design appears to move around a lot, but that link works. Their website navigation sucks, or rather it's roughly as intuitive and useful as the game controls; mostly good for meditative clicking.

Okay, after you get past the Aardvark the next scene is a machine room you play around in the machine room a bit and manage to change the direction of the planetoid to avoid a collision with your little man's home planetoid.

You have to turn on the light switch. It's a very teeny little red glow in the lower right quadrant of the screen. Look carefully.

Found it once I tried on another computer. I'm still not sure if I missed it the first time, or if something else went wrong.
