Obvious, on your right. Don't tie it up any longer than you have to, private boaters on the upstream steps, commercial boaters on the downstream ramp.

There is now a second takeout further downstream. Robert Sexton tells me:

It's about 15 minutes downstream. When you pass the old takeout, go right or left of the island (your choice, left seems quicker). It's downstream .8 miles on the right. There's lots of parking, and you can leave a vehicle there. The only downside is that after wearing out your crew on the river, you then make them paddle for a while. The water flattens out after the island, and its a nice place to swim. You have to keep those feet downstream, because there are shallow rocks here and there (I stuck the boat. It was embarrassing) The cool side is that if you hang onto the boat, you can wait for a rock to come along, and use it to hop up into the boat.

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee area, contact the folks at OAR , my favorite outfitters.
