I think it was Greg Costikyan's writing that first introduced me to a
fairly strict taxonomy of toys, games and stories, and you're
describing the toy end of the spectrum, it's what an awful lot of
people find compelling about "the sims", and I think that a good
portion of bleedover between toy and game is what makes a computer
"game" interesting to me, I think the play rather than the competition
is why I find Counter-Strike compelling.

And I think it's why I didn't find Myst compelling, not enough play.
