Had I had any articles come up from my http://my.cnn.com/ searches today this would have been easier, but I poked through some JavaScript to verify that this is a templateURL for the first custom keyword . You still need to send the cookie they sent at login, but that's easy to work around.
Alas CNN won't get its advertising revenue this way, but that's what happens when you design a crippling and difficult to use web site, people will work around it to make it reasonable to deal with.
So that I can just add this page to my daily scan, my keywords (only work with my cookie):
sex | libertarian | erotic | erotica | pornography
