Dan rants: Ramblings of an insomniac

Woke up early this morning, I'm waiting for it to be late enough that a trek with the camera down to the Golden Gate to watch the sun rise will be fruitful.

So, some meanderings that might not fit the usual Flutterby theme but reflect where I am for posterity.

I was wanting to use "escribitionist" in a sentence, and I'd like to link it back to its first use. I know Columbine pointed to it somewhere, but I figured it would be easy enough to find as I've run into it in enough journals. HotBot and Google didn't have any mention of it, Excite had only one.

I'm not sure what this proves, but I'm constantly amazed at how little of the web the major search engines index. Anybody think that there's a market for a search engine that spiders the other 90% of the web, the quirky off-beat stuff?

Need to do one more check on the server for colocation and just as soon as FedEx gets over the Midwinter Merchandising Season ship it off to 'nooga.

Speaking of MMS, I'm not much on the rituals thereof, but Christmas trees have played a part in my love life. And a friend who doesn't have the space at her place wanted a tree, so we set up one in my living room. Finding a tree this late in Marin is one thing, the nursery and grocery store at the end of my street were both sold out, but we tracked one down and lugged it home.

On the way home we stopped for takeout Chinese, and since Coca Cola is supposed to work as well as anything else as a tree life enhancer, we went soda shopping for the first time in a long while. Riddle me this: How come 16 ounce bottles and 2 litre bottles both cost $.99?

Later Sunday evening I'm rummaging through the stuff Catherine's still got in the storage space here looking for her stand and couldn't find it. So, in desperation, I called Longs, and the guy said, with some hesitation in his voice, "Well, we've got two left, but these are for large trees."

I should have heard what I was trying to tell me. Forty bucks later I've got this 1/4" steel monstrosity with a 36" wingspan and over two gallon reservoir capacity that totally dwarfs the tree.
