John Miller trained guides will let customers run this one Western style, one leg in and one leg out.

Stay right, there's an extreme undercut after the first set of drops on the far left of the islands, but the channel isn't as clean over there and there's all sorts of cool places to ferry right in here, so there's never a reason for you to be there.

The only other thing to watch for is towards the bottom there are a couple of barely submerged rocks in the center. Certain companies (OAR before Doug Simmons bought it) have been known to pin multiple boats there. It looks really stupid, don't do it.

At extremely high water levels those rock islands turn into big U-shaped hydraulics. Don't do that either. I've heard numerous tales of watching the sun go down from that vantage point.

Ocoee Outdoors lets their customers body surf the first hole on the far right (just at the ledge). Have a paddle or rope for safety, but it's a nice swim and people will tend to float back into the eddy.

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee area, contact the folks at OAR , my favorite outfitters.
