Super Bowl ads

2008-02-04 21:44:46.022535+00 by Dan Lyke 5 comments

Am I just getting old, or are this year's Super Bowl ads really that un-funny? Yesterday afternoon I was feeling like I should really weasel my way out of working on the house and go hang out at a party. It would have been nice to socialize, but, damn, that looks like the worst backdrop to a party since the Star Wars Holiday Special[Wiki](Yeah, I'm smiling when I say that, even though I missed your party this year Brian).

i think the screaming squirrel/screaming wife was something i could relate to, been there/done that. there has been more than one occasion that i've yelled "don't hit the squirrel!"

This year it was really about the game. I'm not one to watch football often but I generally do watch the Superbowl for the social interaction. This year I was stuck in a San Diego motel room and too tired to do anything but kick back and watch the game. Oh what a game it was.

You are correct, the ads were unfunny and gross, and for the most part did not encourage me to consider purchasing their products. The Chevy truck in the centrifuge was intresting, were I in the market for a tow truck. owever, the vomiting baby was enought to put me off capitalism.

So here's the Ford on a centrifuge (and 3 other) spots, preceded by "making of" shots. Silly use of overkill technology to prove... well... gotta admit some of it was entertaining (I liked the "drop the truck out of the airplane, use it to brake the airplane" thing), although I'm giggling over the last one where they're shooting something to demonstrate the awesome handling capabilities... with a camera crane mounted on a mini van pulling the tighter radius turns.

I don't know who this "Mike Rowe" guy is, but damn those videos make me want to hunt him down and smack him.

He has a TV show on Discovery - "Dirty Jobs". I saw a couple of them when I was at a place with the tv hooked up to the real world, and they were amusing. Apparently the guy is an opera singer turned TV personality.
