The Oatmeal: I tried to watch Game of Thrones and this is what happened.

Good thoughts on piracy and broadcast media...

Sums up a lot of my thoughts very well. I've mostly just given up watching almost anything at all, via Netflix or anything else.

I got hooked on Breaking Bad on Netflix but they don't have season 4. I bought it on Amazon for $20 because it was easier than pirating and converting the video... Which is exactly what Apple has been trying to convince the media moguls:

The problem is not that people want to steal their content, it's that they make it easier to steal the content than to buy it.

And the media still doesn't get it. That's why Apple became the largest music retailer and is now the most valuable company in the world.

And I can now watch Breaking Bad, season 4, on my Android phone, Kindle Fire, Roku box on my TV and even my laptop. That's $20 for 13 45-minute episodes. Downloading the 13 episodes then transcoding and copying to my devices would have taken at least 60 minutes of my time.

I look forward to the day when I can make that kind of cost-benefit analysis on all media purchase. And, like Meoun, my media choices are becoming more directed by the content that's available via channels that make life easier.
