PainStation

2002-03-11 01:53:41+00 by Dan Lyke 3 comments

A Wired article describes how a couple of Germans have developed the PainStation. There's also a PainStation home page, which I can't look at right now 'cause Flash isn't working on this computer. Plays Pong, except that when the ball gets by your paddle "the player will feel sensations such as heat, punches and electroshocks of varying duration delivered through the PEU." I'm not sure I want to know if Debra has plans for this device in conjunction with Diablo 2...

Hmmmm.... I see a Burning Man project. Given the right stimulating/pain sensors applied to the right body parts, one could have either pleasure or pain delved out, even by humans. Now that's beyond my technical skills, BUT...

I'd envision a solitaire game, something like pinball, where making certain combinations of shots would garner more and more pleasureable attention from someone, which in turn, would maker it harder to concentrate on the game.... leading to some painful stimulation from the same person.

Actually, a couple could play.... one being the player, the other the giver of pleasure/pain...... and switching when the "ball is lost" or whatever.

Or, what the hell, this is Burning Man...... play with strangers or play a "multi-player" variant.

My conversations about Diablo II with Debra have been the only thing that has so far seriously tempted me about battle.net. I tend to play games like that solo, but I must admit the BDSM possibilities of computer games have never been adequately explored.

I think, though, that force feedback would be a little too much for me there. Psychological games, sure. Physical pain is not my speed.

You mean like a blow job machine with electrodes hooked to a pinball machine? While you are playing well... you are getting your rocks off.. but lose the ball.. and ZZZZAPPPP!

Of course.. it could be done low tech with a couple of willing people...
