A follow-up to the truck on its side from a few days ago: The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (besides having completely lame browser compatibility tests) is apparently doing its best to rip off Burning Man artists. They have the obligatory boat sinking in to the concrete on the other side, the sign next to the now smoking truck on its side reads "This is not an accident, this is art. Do not call 911."
While I realize that it's sometimes difficult to tell the smoking wreckage and burning trash from art, it's only the most pretentious who have to actually post signs with explanations.
To the right there is some antidote to the triteness, or maybe not. The sun rising over the Bay Bridge this morning was stunning, my picture less so.

I dunno, I kinda like "This is not an accident, this is art." In fact, I like the SIGN as art - very Jenny Holzer - more than the truck. I wouldn't mind having the sign in my house. I'd frame it.

I was thinking about a "This is not an accident, this is art" T-shirt, but I was afraid of some of the meta possibilities if it became an accident.
Like, what happens if someone has a heart attack by the truck?

Now, if the artiste had found a REAL truck wreck and then placed his sign next to it, that might be considered art.

Is it really pretentiousness? Or is it the action of somebody who's tired of paying for erroneous 911 calls? (I don't know for sure about calls, but businesses typically have to pay a fee whenever the police/fire units are dispatched to false alarms at their facilities.)

Actually, I think the truck is kinda pretentious. I think the sign is cool, and probably warranted.
