I know exactly what you mean, and I agree. I'm only reporting back what I see when I visit the hobby shops once a week, as well as check their incoming custom order lists: there's very little in the way of interest for innovation. I know well The Forge, and I've also had a chance to publish a number of reviews (with three more yet to be published) of these "three-tier" systems over at Gamegrene.
