Cool Sites in Chronological Order

A collection of quotes from movies at http://www.smackem.com/quotes/movies.html

"Crash" Davis: Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fibre, good Scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturft and the designated hitter, I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long slow deep soft wet kisses that last three days. Good night. Annie: Oh my. --Bull Durham

This is just WAY cool. Experiments you can do with traffic, and maybe make the world a better place: http://www.eskimo.com/~billb/amateur/traffic/traffic1.html On the other hand, having done some of these experiments before, it's obvious that Seattle drivers are better behaved than Bay Area and Marin drivers, 'cause people here will just go around on the shoulder so they can get stuck in traffic faster.

CyberLiberties has been released to the world and moved to its new home: http://www.cyberliberties.org/

Another nerdly quotes page: http://kuoi.asui.uidaho.edu/~kamikaze/quotes.html

"I have absolutly no problem with people using Java as a better language for Win32 programming (I would prefer if they stuck to x-platform stuff but oh well). The problem I do have is with MS not also providing the Core Java APIs." -D'Arcy Smith (darcy@itools.symantec.com)
"I do understand your perspective. However what you're suggesting effectively translates to Microsoft developing and maintaining, on Windows, a runtime subsystem that competes with Windows and other Microsoft technologies and which is specified by an alliance of our largest competitors." -Carlos Blanco (carlosbl@microsoft.com) in USENET article <5vpq6j$pcf@news.microsoft.com>

And

"If I cannot use the users as playthings, I don't really see too much purpose in having them on my systems." -Chris Magagna (chris@uidaho.edu)

Another one that describes itself better than I ever could, it's the combination blender and telephone .

It's a combination blender and telephone. It's fully functional as a telephone or blender. WHY? is the most FAQ (Frequently Asked Question). It's for people who like to hear: "Where in the **** did you get this?" If you're looking for a sensible, mass-produced appliance, you're better off at [Sears Roebuck]. If you want your friends to think you're insane, but quote you like God anyway, this is the appliance for YOU!

Not that I'm a skeptic or anything, but I don't think I'm gonna be charging $360 to my Visa for a Hyper Dimensional Resonator any time soon:

THIS IS A TWO DIAL, ONE BANK TREATMENT INSTRUMENT, WHICH PLUGS INTO A NORMAL 110V OUTLET. THIS DEVICE GENERATES AN AC/DC, 60-CYCLE, ALTERNATING FREQUENCY WHICH GENERATES AN UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF WHITE LIGHT ENERGY. THIS DEVICE COMES EQUIPPED WITH A WITNESS WELL, PHENOLIC RUBBING PLATE, MULTI- DIMENSIONAL STABILIZER, CLEAR SWITCH, POWER SWITCH, TIME COILS, AND ONE ELECTROMAGNET.

[snip]

AMONG OTHER THINGS, THIS UNIT CAN ALSO BE USED FOR OUT OF THE BODY TIME TRAVEL. AS FAR AS THE PHYSICAL ASPECTS ARE CONCERNED, YES YOU CAN USE THE HYPER-DIMENSIONAL RESONATOR FOR PHYSICAL TIME TRAVEL, BUT ONLY WHEN ACTIVATED OVER A NATURAL GRID POINT, OR IN A PLACE WHERE UFO'S ARE SIGHTED.

Cyberliberties is a page tracking notes about encryption, tech, and how society relates to it.

On the Bay Area Linux User's Group, Don Marti reports that http://barley.electriclichen.com/cgi-bin/wtf is a page to check which OS a host is running. (WTF stands for "Web Technology Finder" by the way.)

For those looking for a starting place for information and various hacking resources...http://www.defcon.org/html/other-peoples-pages.html seems to be a good place to look. BTW it would seem that "Back Orifice" (Cult of the Dead Cow tool) has been thwarted by the folks at http://www.datafellows.com/ although rumor has it that the cdc folk have Windoze Ninety Ate on the way....

Well, if you ever needed to know "why rabbits don't hunt tigers"? or if "men really need prostitution"?? then you might find http://www.feminista.com/ interesting. Warning:people that have a Y chromosome should use caution and not post inflammatory remarks.....less he be clubbed like a baby seal....

Well, given that I pissed off the folks at http://www.webstandards.org I figure I should post the URL of the people who do have a clue: http://www.anybrowser.org/

I missed this the first time around, Salon Magazine ran a tribute to Dominique Aury , author of the Story of O, by Molly Weatherfield.

Suzanne D. Rich is a serious LEGOPHILE

Marriage in great danger if both partners are equal! Star Wars a tool of Satan! Business partnerships bring the Bible Believer into spiritual danger! Soulless clones, able to communicate and show emotion with no conscience, "the perfect vehicle for Satan to foist his next "trip" on those of you who love him and hate Jesus Christ"! The Roman Church could be the whore of revelation 17? All this and more at http://www.sounddoctrine.com/ (except that they capitalize it in ways that I wouldn't).

Well, the folks at http://www.webstandards.org responded to my link yesterday, so I gave 'em another chance. I went to their site with Lynx and Netscape 3.0 with JavaScript turned off, and it's much better. Link styles aren't totally hosed, they have underlines and are therefore recognizeable. I don't know what it is about what they're doing, but that site looks a whole lot better when not viewed with Netscape 4.5. Anyways, sorry, guys.

People who just don't get it: http://www.webstandards.org/ has lots of Java script to obscure the usual web interface, font specifications, and, to top it off, no content (which is fitting)... "Fighting for Standards in our Browsers". I don't mean to be like a cynic or anything, but do you guys realize what happens if someone with a personally configured browser hits your site? Total chaos.

http://www.greyday.org/ might be a neat site to check out and a cool idea to participate in on October 1st if you're into intellectual property rights.

More Pilot toys, a pair of programmer's calculators. http://members.aol.com/PilotApps/pcalc.html is a fairly simple one, http://www.pcnet.com/~desrosi/pgmrcalc_v2.html has a whole programming language and is missing only the kitchen sink.

Whoops, just realized I never sent the first batch of PalmPilot links. I've got mine up and running without touching the Windows install disks.

Salon Magazine reports on Fred Tuttle's run for the Senate in Vermont . Even if it meant losing Lahey in the Senate I think I'd vote for him, he's pro G-strings and spinning nipple tassels and running because "it's the only job you can get with a 10th-grade education and no references."

More Pilot stuff: Aportis has a book reader called AportisDoc
