[lpopup.jpg] "Not named after the dolphin..."

Rafters look for the small wave just above the ledge and put your right tube on the left side of it with about a 45 degree right-hand angle and call an all-forward as you clear the ledge. Drive right so that you miss "Oh Shit Island" below the left-hand eddy. You can, with lots of bouncing and scooching make it down the left hand side of that island, but going through the center is a really bad scene.

Unless they really know what they're doing (ie: 2nd year guides or better), swimmers here are gonna get hurt, so get 'em back in fast. The rock formations around and under that rock jumble are really strange too, and probably pose entrapment dangers.

Past the island hold a sharp right angle, let it fall off as you hit that wave, then hold the left angle and move river left to avoid hitting anyone surfing in Hollywood Hole.

Hard-boaters will want to eddy right just above the ledge and surf across to the eddy. Better hard boaters will want to drop out and catch the micro-eddy to the river right of the hole just past the ledge upstream of the "V" on the break of the wave, drop onto the wave and push the nose down for super-dynamic all-grab-loops-visible type enders.

From the eddy, the river left side of the hole is a good place to play with back-enders, and you can get back over to that micro eddy by powering hard onto the high-point of the wave and side-surfing over to it. If you miss it, just catch and eddy river right and surf back across to the left.

I love to hear from my readers, but I get a lot of mail. If you're writing to set up a rafting or other outdoor adventure trip in the southeast Tennessee area, contact the folks at OAR , my favorite outfitters.
