Re: ART vs. DRAMA

What a silly discussion, all about who "wins" and who can "beat" the "opponent" - so much of what motivates game design these days.

Make what you want, and let the audience/players/participants/public decide.

Then, if they like it, you will pontificate about how vindicated you are.

And, if they don't like it, you will pontificate about how the "masses" don't get your art.

It will still be a bullshit discussion, and if you just stopped trying to define everyone else according to your standards and insist that everyone think your way, we will be able to get on with a productive conversation.

Instead, after chastising Mark for being strident, you are doing the exact same thing, Brandon, shouting people down with your very partial understanding of complex issues, just because they have a different opinion about what constitutes art.

There is no right or wrong here, there is only opinion, point of view, and intent. The rest is a useless flame war.

This is why I don't bother to participate in discussions here anymore, like so many others that I know lurk and hope to learn in the interstices between the bombast.

There is so much opportunity for everyone to gain in a win-win situation, if certain folks here would stop trying to control and dictate the conversation, and just let people freely exchange ideas in a spirit of sharing and learning.
