Naw; this is just a big NOC, taking SMTP feeds from the provider NOC's so that someone can see the Big Picture. It's status, not data.

*SMTP* is[Wiki] a problem. SNMP, maybe not so much.

It's a lot more than SMTP sniffing.. and remote monitoring of internet performace according to geeks that have been working on it. Sure, you could use the hardware, connectivity and CPU power and storage capabilities being built to 'monitor'.. and you can also use a 50 cal machine gun to kill a cockroach.
