legalize fireworks

2007-07-04 00:38:56.00437+00 by Dan Lyke 2 comments

Peter Hartlaub wants to re-legalize fireworks in the Bay Area:

Let's look at the pros and cons of making fireworks illegal:

Pro: Fireworks can cause serious injuries and property damage, generate noise and air pollution and infringe on the rights of those citizens who choose not to celebrate with pyrotechnics.

Con: Fireworks are totally sweet.

Pro: Fireworks place an unnecessary burden on already tight resources of the police and fire departments, creating overtime expenses while diverting attention from more important cases.

Con: Fireworks are wicked awesome.

As they say in high school forensics competitions, the Pro side just got served.

Pro: As exports of China go, they are far safer than dog food and toothpaste.

Snort!

In other news, a Michigan woman blew her head off with a 3 inch mortar bomb while standing over it and lighting it. This is a good argument for education and smarter ignition systems, when I was in my pyro phase my dad made it quite clear to me that wicks and fuses were evil unless they were long enough that you didn't have to move from where you were to safely observe the explosion and you had a positive view of how the burn was progressing; electric ignition systems on pyrotechnics are a good thing.
