William F. Buckley Jr. dead at 82. And now "conservative" is represented by the likes of Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck. Sigh. Elf has a good rant on the idiocy of that last one.

RIP
His movement was stillborn and will now fade away as Ayn Rand predicted.
Ayn once said to him: "You are too intelligent to believe in god aren't you?"
He did not realize that was a compliment.
I used to think he made some sense until I became "awake".
Speaking of 'awake' has any one been watching "Breaking Bad"?

Columbine excoriates Buckley, I'm willing to cut him a little more slack because not only do attitudes change, he also later said that had he been black in South Africa, he saw little choice but to join the ANC. Along those lines, Elf tosses off a Buckley quote that I think both addresses Columbine's complaint and my respect:
Conservatives pride themselves on resisting change, which is as it should be. But intelligent deference to tradition and stability can evolve into intellectual sloth and moral fanaticism, as when conservatives simply decline to look up from dogma because the effort to raise their heads and reconsider is too great.
