The Blackest Friday

2008-11-28 19:24:16.99771+00 by ebradway 4 comments

Some Long Islanders took Wal-Mart's "door-buster" Black Friday promotion to heart, tearing down the doors at the Valley Stream, NY, Wal-Mart and killing one worker and injuring four customers. Customers continued to stream into the store as first responders attempted to revive the victim. This has got to be the Blackest Friday ever. Black Friday, 2007. Black Friday, 2006.

I recommend staying home and buying nothing!

I just can't get over how people are more worried about obtaining their material possessions then the life of another. I totally understand how the economy has affected this as many of us are having financial struggles but I would much rather my family and I go without than for another family to lose a loved one. There is absolutely no deal to be offered by anyone that is worth the loss of life. Is it just me? In most cases, you can sit in your nice warm home in your pj's and order online many of the things they are fighting and killing for in these stores. I have been out there on Black Friday and attempted to get those great deals in the past but I finally had to say that enough was enough. People are just too absorbed in their own wants and needs to care about anyone else. Maybe these retail stores should also come to think of what their sales are really worth too but then again, I know I'm dreaming. In retail, money and profit are worth everything, right?

A consumerist feeding frenzy. From my point of view, SmallWart management incites the mob behaviour as best it can to reduce inhibitions and increase impulse decisions. The results are little different than a lynch mob. There are news photos showing a sign near the store door stating "Blitz line forms here."

Some people LIKE the bustle and competition. Let 'em enjoy it. Just use cattle prods and mace to keep them inside the velvet ropes.
