There are a number of octo- and even nona- generians who ski regularly. This guy's competitively skiing at 100!
Skateboarding just seems like it requires a little more gear. One other benefit of skiing is the ski patrol. If you wipe out on a skateboard, you might not see a medic or a stretcher for hours. On the slopes, it's usually just a few minutes before help arrives and they can begin treatment at the bottom of the slope.
