I think repair cafe's, makerspaces, hackerspaces, etc.. are all outgrowths of our schools no longer teaching or supporting "vocation skills". Tinkering, fixing and building is innate to many of us. It is just something we do.

Commercial plugs are fine, if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't try to pretend to be a consumer.
