If you attempt to connect to me on

If you attempt to connect to me on LinkedIn and I don't know you, I'll Google to find out who you are. You should have a real web presence.

As I'm doing a bit of "BizDev"/"Marketing" stuff, I'm interfacing with a lot of less technically endowed people, my standards have changed. Being root on your own server that you wrote your own CMS on for your website (or coded by hand) is no longer required.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was yet another LinkedIn spammer, but I'm amazed at the number of people who seem to think a LinkedIn account is enough: It takes quite a bit of effort these days to not leave digital droppings somewhere, and yet I still run across people who have no web presence.

There are various possibilities.

- Most of their web presence is NSFW and is under a handle having no resemblance to their real life name.

- They are buried in the search results below more prolific people with the same name.

Both of these are true in my case. But then if I were to send you a LinkedIn request, my profile there would be enough to let you know I am not the property appraiser in British Columbia or the politician in Wisconsin. So you would do a more focused search than just on my name, and still not get a whole lot.
