Georgia reps want bike licenses

2013-10-07 15:15:41.105468+00 by Dan Lyke 2 comments

Shadow forwarded along this article about Georgia Rep. Carl Rogers, R- Hall County, pushing to tax bicyclists and put license plates on bicycles.

Larry points to the cosponsors, Lee Hawkins (R-27th) and Emory Dunahoo (R-30th), and notes that they're also proposing that cyclists always ride single file in groups of no more than 4.

I... I... I don't even know where to start.

This bill, should it pass and I've been informed by both my state senator and state representative that it doesn't stand a chance of even getting out of committee, this law would essentially eliminate club rides in Georgia. Plus it makes the process of closing a road to cyclist trivial for a county. There is nothing in the law to benefit cyclists, only to restrict them.

RT @murphstahoe:

The government wants you not just unarmed, but flabby when it knocks on your door - http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/pol...e-reaction/#sthash.mADqW3or.dpuf

Further pull-quote from that link:

Clearly, government registration of bicycles is merely the first step toward confiscation. The government wants you not just unarmed, but flabby when it knocks on your door. Never mind that every bicycle grabbed by government will be sold at an Alabama flea market, and proceeds will pay for Obamacare.

(And, yes, I need to figure out why UTF-8 works in the main entries but not in the comments. Argh.)
