Have you read Radley Balko's Rise of the Warrior Cop yet? It's in my "to read" pile, but I suspect one of the things it's going to tell me is that taking away cops' tasers isn't going to resolve the problem without some other structural change. In far too many cases, the police see themselves as an occupying army (which many of them were before getting out of the army and becoming cops).
