Every once in a while I go hang with the local ".com wannabe" crowd in town. They talk of obtaining the things it takes to get more VC, increasing captured email addresses, hit/subscriber counts, demographics... and almost never about customers/users and providing a service or perceived value. Never about a pro-user view of the user interface.
Some capitalism is necessary. Currently rabid capitalism by idiots is molding the web.

Yep. I commented elsewhere that

but far too much development is being sold to the VCs or the advertisers, and not to the users.
Time to start participating in a darknet, I think.
