Ashley Madison

RT Iron Spike ‏@Iron_Spike:

For folk tempted to snicker at the Ashley Madison doxxing threat: I was reading a reddit thread where a Saudi user was asking about asylum.

#

He'd used AM, and his profile/PMs there detailed an interest in men. This is a death penalty offense in Saudi Arabia.

#

So, in anticipation of being outed, he was asking reddit which country was most likely to take him in.

Yeah. Suddenly not so funny.

@SwiftOnSecurity WoW has a lower monthy subscription cost than Ashley Madison, and probably has better odds.

And this is almost certainly fiction written by the Ashley Madison marketing department: This is why I signed up for Ashley Madison.

Business plan: Prey on stupid dishonest people with money. People with things to hide. Perfect.

The people that really do have "open marriages" and are socially and technologically savvy have much better places/methods to "hook up".

Yeah, FetLife, Kasidie, pretty sure most of the conventional dating sites have a "married" check box, heck, one wag I read even suggested that you had better odds with a World of Warcraft subscription...

A follow-up to that "almost none of the women" story above, Ashley Madison Code Shows More Women, and More Bots:

Ashley Madison aspired to be a global network of people breaking the bonds of monogamy in the name of YOLO. Instead, it was mostly a collection straight men talking to extremely busy bots who bombarded them with messages asking for money. ...

Some of the patterns this story reports on will be familiar to anyone who's been besieged by the legions of duck-faced-selfie would-be followers on Facebook or Twitter.
