Oh. My. If anyone doubts that it's been September for quite a while, look at the glories of this little B2B ad sheet promoting email advertising:

"Wilke's company and others are already moving into the next frontier: e-mail written in HTML, which allows the message to look and feel just like a Web page and lets companies maintain a consistent brand image."

Sorry folks, I will no longer reasonably consider that line about how claiming the net has been dumbed down is elitist and wrong.

Well, that line is elitist but it isn't wrong. What's wrong with being a member of the elite and knowing it, anyway? ;-) The net is a large place and growing. The more it is used the more you will find dumbed down areas, but also the more you'll find areas that aren't dumbed down. I was glad to see the ideas expressed in that article. Marketing people, the elitist that *they* are, see the fruitlessness of non-targeted spamming. I don't think I'm going to end up on these guys lists to send their HTML emails to and I don't think you will either. It's going to take a while but as these areas of dumbed-downess become more and more prevailent you will find the dumb being sucked into these areas and staying there. Avoid those areas and the elite can still remain relatively untarnished. :-)
