I guess those of us in Marin are lucky: Our local out-of-control whoop-de-do Millenium party that nobody went to only lost a million bucks, and that was paid for by a town I don't live in (psyche!), over in England the Millenium Dome is ignored even by thieves and the fancy $27 million buck Millenium footbridge is unstable

Hey, it could be worse; Frankfurt's millennium expo thingy has lost even more money than the Dome by all accounts.
There's an interesting social question here: *Why* has no-one wanted to go to any of these millennium projects? I think its because nobody knows what they're *for*. Are they educational, entertainment or what? Falling between several stools, they fail to find any audience at all. Contrast with the millennium eye in London (The big wheel thing paid for by British Airways) which has been a runaway success despite its teething troubles. Everyone knows exactly what they're getting + its been wildly popular.
