disputed ballot

2000-11-10 00:57:36+01 by Dan Lyke 3 comments

Via CNN, here's the real disputed Palm Beach county ballot. Now I'd rather see Gore win, and several news sources have said that it violates the letter of Florida law, but if you have the mental capacity to breathe without outside assistance it's hard to imagine misinterpreting this. On the other hand, Dan Bricklin makes some good arguments about ballot usability.

As people looking at the ballot for the first time, and learning how to use it, it certainly looks easy. But consider the case when you have filled out a hundred previous ballots where they all run down the same side. If I were in a hurry, I wouldn't expect this one to be any different. It's not that people were misinterpreting the ballot, it's that they weren't interpreting it at all because they thought they had already learned how to use their ballots.

Here, this is why the Florida ballot was confusing.

"I voted for the wrong one" - NOT!
