Via Scripting News, Craig Burton on Jim Alchin:
If I were face to face with Jim, I would say, "Jim, buddy, one of two
things caused you to say something so clueless. 1.) You don't understand
the open source movement, 2.) You are lying through your teeth. Either
way, you need better advice before you say something sent maging."
This is a must read article.

Both Dan Gillmore and Tim O'Reilly offer their comments as to why Jim may have been taken out of context, or at least their hopes that he had been. Dan includes an explanation from Microsofts Brad Smith on what Allchin may have meant.
We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your
comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel
they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
