Happiest Potties on Earth

2001-12-24 03:29:22+00 by Dan Lyke 2 comments

In my notes about my recent trip to Disneyland, I noted that one of the things that broke the experience of the place was that the toilets didn't seem in-theme enough. It's hard to feel like you're at a small-town merchant, or immersed in Toon Town, when the facilities look like generic facilities from any large mall. Via Larkfarm, someone has taken to documenting the Happiest Potties on Earth.

I see two sides of this, the other is that familiar boring facilities are efficient to a large multi-national crowd. However, Disney's fanatical attention to theming detail could be used well. Worse, we are discussing it. Worse than that, the people that have a website rating Disney dumping digs have less of a life than us.

I suppose weirdly proportioned toilets and talking urinals might be difficult to interact with, and I understand that certain facilities do need to be kept separate, otherwise you might have people peeing on the fire-hydrants or behind the fake bushes, but Disney does such a good job of integrating other meta-facilities that I'm sure there's a way to make the transition less jarring.

And yes, whenever I get concerned about the lack of broad-based interests in my life, I've only to remember that some people use their web pages to chronicle toilets to realize that... well... maybe I'm not as much of a nerd as I think.
