[Half-Dome and reflection] Phil wanted to go to Yosemite[Wiki] this weekend. Lots of things conspired to make that not happen, but a virtual visit seems apropos, especially since I'm feeling sick and am probably going to be completely stir-crazy this weekend.

That's a beautiful shot, Dan. What did you use?

I don't remember specifics, best guess is Velvia, 2 stop graduated filter (you can see the line in the foliage on the left side), which would suggest the short end of the 28-105/3.5-4.5 stopped down a bit, though I'd have to look at the original scan or the slide 'cause the largest jpeg I put online has some artifacts that suggest I got the wrong compromise on depth of field.

Body was probably the EOS-5, spot-metered with the in-camera meter. And I probably hedged my bets and bracketed by half a stop on either side, 'cause 35mm film is cheap. Not that you'd be able to tell the difference between those brackets on economy Photo-CD scans, on these scans there's a little bit of highlight detail loss in the sand on either side.

I need to get back into this, get a good filter holder for my big lenses, and get some flat glass and oils so I can do slighly better grad filters for scenes like this. But at that point I should probably be shooting large format anyway.
