Islands in the fog

[Hilltop in fog] Sunday morning's hike climbed out of the fog, up Mount Burdell. Another view shows some of the devastation that the Live Oak disease is causing, whole trees just collapsing in place.

I hope you know you've been supplying me with new wallpaper with these photos. Dan, this stuff is beautiful. You've always been a great landscape photographer but this stuff you've been sharing the last few days is the best work of yours that I've seen. I am very, very impressed.

Thank you.

A photographer named "Weegee", famed for news-work with a Speed Graphic[Wiki], is the earliest use I can find of "F8 and be there". Certainly qualifies for this, taken on the point-n-shoot.

Now if I can just find an outlet for this stuff, so that I feel justified buying a D30[Wiki](which will undoubtedly be obsolete the moment I buy it), a few more flashes (obviously I really need 3), and that lusted-after 100-400IS (yes, I know it's not long enough to be a birding lens, but... but...).

Point and shoot! Sheesh. It may have only taken you an instant to appreciate the image and frame it the way you did but that is composition and lighting coming together at its finest. Dan, I know the gadgetry is as much of a draw to photography to you as the art but just remember that no matter how sophisticated the equipment is if the lighting and composition isn't right the art ain't there.

Oh, and I may have some ideas for an outlet.
