They actually ran this story on NBC news in prime time last night. This guy gets mad about the poor signage on an LA freeway and decides to fix it himself. Cal Trans didn't notice for 9 months. Way to go DUDE...

There's a /. entry with links to an LA Times story that has pictures (less interesting than you'd think, this guy matched the signage exactly) and video (which I haven't watched yet).

I have no problem with him being called a "sign activist." My objection is that he's claiming that it's an art work. Nah, he's just another disgruntled driver who hates LA Freeway signage (one of several million); it's just that in this case, he did something about it.

But I can't figure out how you can call this "art."

Dori, I think he is referring to the film of him hanging the sign as being the artwork or the act of hanging the sign. He bills himself as a performance artist.

Socially responsible anarchism in action. I both applaud and condemn his actions. Art? Maybe.

Meanwhile, in San Rafael police are going through records trying to figure out who they ticketed for violating a bogus "No U-Turn" sign which, apparently, some community activist had put up.
