Pete Townshend aressted on kiddie porn suspicions. I just learned that in jolly ol England they can arrest you before charging you with a crime. Not sure what Pete's guilty of(if anything) but it seems very wierd to be grouping him with other monsters of that ilk.

As I understand it, you can be arrested in order for the police to question you (although you don't have to answer their questions). There's a strict limit on the length of time you can be held in custody before the police have to charge or release you.
The above doesn't apply if you're a foreign national suspected of being in league with terrorists however. You can be held indefinitely without charge -- although you have the option of going back to your country of origin or any other country which is prepared to take you. (Nasty new law brought in post 11Sep2001)
