This is a brilliant idea. If movie plots are patented, then filmmakers will have to start coming up with new ones. That would be nice.

You know what's going to happen though, right? It means that they'll only make movies that are at least 25 years old, and they'll studiously avoid any innovations because that might leave them open to lawsuits.

Movies will be like Microsoft products.
