It was an interesting excercise to see just how much the earth's oceans would rise if all the Antartican ice melted. The results I got weren't nearly as bad as some might make it out to be: 60 feet (well, 18 meters, since I did the calculations in metric). Yes, it would be devistating here in South Florida, but I doubt we'd be seeing Great American Foreheads of Mt Rushmore any time soon (sources for figures: area of Antartica, average depth of all the oceans and average thickness of Antartican ice).
