I have probably a couple of hundred vacbed photos in my collection of weirdness (sue me, I think it looks cool). It never fails to amuse me when I see someone in a vacbed deliberately imitating the Han Solo pose, with the hands out. It happens often enough that some cases are surely deliberate. There's a lot of overlap between F/SF geeks and the bondage/restraint devotees. There are also plenty of places where you can see people who have applied their device-hacking skills to the vacbed (partially because they are expensive when sold commercially, so roll-your-own is popular). Dan would be proud.
