Okay, so Eclipse is supposed to be this great, new, up-and-coming universal IDE for developers (I think). But the entire website reads like a cross between high level managorial-marketing-speak and a dry RFC. I'm having trouble seeing and wrapping my brain around the big picture - not to mention convincing myself that this thing is worth downloading and playing around with. Maybe something as simple as some screenshots of the IDE in action might help. I dunno. I don't quite understand why they seem to have such resistance to the idea - I'm certainly not the only one who would like to see some.

You can find some sshots in the paper (pdf format) mentionned on the Eclipse website.

Yeah, the Eclipse web site is a mess. A friend pointed me at Eclipse a few months back. Figuring out what to download was a bit tricky. It's not evident until well into one of the tutorials that there's *extra* stuff you needed to have downloaded for the tutorial to make sense.
It's a cool tool, but the site hinders as much as it helps. Better to find someone who'se been using it for a while, and spend time looking over their shoulder.

It looks pretty much like any other IDE. For some screenshots of a particular product hosted in Eclipse, check out the Rational XDE Java Edition at http://www.rational.com/products/xde/javaed/index.jsp .
