There's something simultaneously brilliant and wrong about how this looks, but the video is pretty amazing.

I *so* did not need a good laugh this morning after being sick all day yesterday.
Thanks, jwz.
You bastard.

I should give credit where it's due. I found the robot via a blog purported to belong to Rand Miller.
Here is another robot critter from that blog, which also gets shoved in a video and remains.... uh... standing?
Neat blog.

If you're interested in robots, these sorts of things usually show up on jwz's livejournal before anywhere else (that I read, anyway) http://jwz.livejournal.com/tag/robots. See the tree-climbing bot, for example.
I would offer a warning for some of the entries that are tagged "robots" are also tagged "perversions", but, well, this is Flutterby.

imagine 50000 of those with little guns on them, coming at you, and they also have the claws for tree climbing - reminds me of 'I Robot' movie. I am thinking 50,000 waiting in orbit in outerspace (they don't need air) ready to drop using a parachute-wing thing and all landing in your county then they all line up in perfect communication (Borg) and start marching toward town -

So far, the universal comment among the robotics-obsessed high school and college students I've forwarded this to seems to be, "Holy shit!" :-) I am particularly impressed with its ability to recover from being kicked over!
But it sure is creepy watching it prance around for the first few seconds. After you get used to its gait, it's a bit less... jarring. Altogether stunning -- thanks for the link!
